The Corinthia Palace in Malta to Open New Athenaeum Spa

Just in time for a sunny spring break on the Mediterranean, the Corinthia Palace will be showing off a swanky new spa. First opened in 1968, the Corinthia Palace is the flagship of Corinthia Hotels, the five-star hospitality group founded by the Pisani family of Malta. Located between Mdina and Valetta, the culture-rich capital that was named European Capital of Culture in 2018, the luxury hotel sits adjacent to the San Anton Palace, the official presidential residence. The guests of its 150 guest rooms get access to swimming pools, restaurants, sizable meeting venues, and— in April 2020— the new Athenaeum Spa.

The debut of the revamped spa will conclude the final phase of an important property-wide renovation. The project was overseen by Goddard Littlefair, the London-based interior design house, who took inspiration from the Mediterranean setting in creating a “naturally chic” ambiance. The Athenaeum Spa has teamed up with ESPA to provide a menu of luxury treatments. A focus will be the personalization of treatments; the spa will be able to curate therapies based on time, price, and individual needs. (For example, if you only have 20 minutes for a shoulder massage…)

Spa facilities will include seven treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, outdoor swimming pool, and a thermal area complete with hydrotherapy pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and experience showers. Last but not least: The Athenaeum Spa will will have a “secret garden” fragrant with citrus trees.
